Catherine Gray Makeup Artistry began in 2011 after Catherine Hill completed the Paul Mitchell Cosmetology Program. Upon exploring the possibilities in the beauty industry, she recognized the need for professional makeup artists in the surrounding areas of Philadelphia.
Her passion for the art of makeup unknowingly started at an early age in a high school art class. She discovered her enjoyment and skill in sketching faces and further studied ways to alter, enhance, and manipulate features on paper as she created them. She went on to apply herself at Elon University where she continued to pursue her artistic interests. However, not finding a particular profession in the art industry, she decided to obtain a degree in Elementary Education. While focusing on her new degree choice, Catherine still satisfied her artistic calling by attending a semester long theatrical makeup course. During her senior year, Catherine also worked with an event stylist where she began to learn the tricks of the beauty trade.
After working with the event stylist and gaining more experience, Catherine came to the realization that she found an artistic profession that she could pursue, which led her to enroll in the Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School following her graduation from Elon. This experience provided Catherine with the basic skills and knowledge that gave her a broad perspective in the art of makeup. During this time, Catherine became eager to hone her skills further so she travelled to NYC to receive hands-on experience where she attend several workshops at Temptu, Make Up Forever, and M.A.C. Through the workshops, Catherine was able to learn from talented celebrity makeup artists and acquire various tips and techniques that the instructors shared from their years of experience.
